Sydney Shock Absorbers has been located on the corner of Railway Road and Princes Highway, Sydenham NSW, for over 50 years. The premises has grown from a 6 car garage where many of Australia’s leading motor racing identities brought their cars for suspension work (such as Kevin Bartlett and the Geoghegan brothers) to now having for more than 30 work bays and being head office to Polyair Springs, Bilstein Racing (R&D), and Heasman Steering.
A member of ThyssenKrupp Technologies, Bilstein have a number of production facilities throughout Europe and the USA, but the primary manufacturing and design centre is located in Ennepetal, Germany.
This facility also houses the testing and development equipment where the vigorous testing requirements of OEM customers can be undertaken. Bilstein have been supplying Monotube gas pressure shock absorbers to OEM customers since 1957 and can currently be found on the world’s fastest production car, the Bugatti Veyron and some of the worlds most expensive cars like the Maybach.
Bilstein Racing is our Race and Development division. It has been constantly expanding since starting in 1996 and can now design and build suspension solutions for most types of vehicles from an ever-growing list of motor sport activities. We have a large range of shock absorber parts on hand, that allow us to build the highest quality shock absorbers. Paul Joyner [manager] along with Jonathon McKinnon [engineer] are a specialized team who work 5 – 7 days a week developing new suspension solutions and providing ongoing pit-lane/paddock support.
From our humble beginnings our ongoing R&D program has led us to 10 Australian premiere motor sport Championships. These include the Australian GTP, Production Car, Formula 3, Formula Vee, Drifting and Modified Production (speedway), as well as many state and smaller category titles. All of these championships have all been won on Bilstein shock absorbers exclusively built and tuned by Sydney Shock Absorbers. It is a forgone conclusion that many teams have benefited from the knowledge gained through Paul and Jonathon work.
